It has a dense network of parks, access to state forests, and the largest urban park system in the nation. Golf, fishing, and boating are major draws, along with a growing arts and food scene.

At Sasso Guerrero & Henderlite, we focus on helping individuals and families in Jacksonville navigate complex family law matters. From divorce and child custody to support and adoption, our attorneys bring deep experience and a practical, client-focused approach. We take the time to understand each client’s situation, offering clear guidance and legal solutions that reflect their unique family dynamics and long-term goals.

About Jacksonville

Jacksonville sits on the northeast coast of Florida and spans over 874 square miles. The city consolidated with Duval County in 1968, creating one of the largest municipalities in the U.S. by land area. It’s a major deep-water port, a military hub, and a growing center for banking, logistics, and healthcare.

The population of Jacksonville is over 970,000, with the metro area home to nearly 1.75 million residents. From suburban neighborhoods to riverfront high-rises, the city offers a wide range of living options.

The city is well known as a hub for year-round outdoor recreation, miles of beaches, and access to major sports, including the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL.

Jacksonville History

The area of Jacksonville is one of the oldest inhabited areas in the United States, home to the Timucua people and later the Mocama tribe. On nearby Black Hammock Island, a team from the University of North Florida discovered pottery dating to 2500 BC.

In 1564, French settlers established Fort Caroline, one of the earliest European colonies in the U.S. Control of the area shifted between France, Spain, and Britain before Florida joined the U.S. in 1821.

Jacksonville grew as a transportation hub and played a key role during the Civil War and WWII. The city survived the Great Fire of 1901 and became a silent film capital before Hollywood took over. Its 1968 city-county consolidation reshaped local government and paved the way for rapid expansion.
