Sitting on the St. Johns River just south of Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Orange Park is a beautiful riverfront town of about 10,000 people. The city’s historic River Road district is peaceful and lined with parks, which are home to frequent outdoor festivals and historical tours.

Orange Park is also famous for its Southern Rock heritage as the birthplace of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as the former site of the remains of the band members killed in a 1977 plane crash, who were memorialized with a monument in the city.

At Sasso Guerrero & Henderlite, we focus on helping individuals and families in Orange Park navigate complex family law matters. From divorce and child custody to support and adoption, our attorneys bring deep experience and a practical, client-focused approach. We take the time to understand each client’s situation, offering clear guidance and legal solutions that reflect their unique family dynamics and long-term goals.

About Orange Park

Orange Park covers just over 5 square miles but serves a much broader area. It includes nearby unincorporated communities like Lakeside, Bellair-Meadowbrook Terrace, and Oakleaf Plantation, and borders Doctors Lake to the south.

Many residents work in healthcare or for the military due to the town’s proximity to NAS Jacksonville. The suburb’s public schools are highly rated, and the area is known for its safe neighborhoods and walkable districts.

Orange Park History

The area was originally known as Laurel Grove, a plantation owned by Zephaniah Kingsley. His wife burned it down in 1813 to keep it from invaders during the Patriots’ Rebellion.

After the Civil War, developers founded the Town of Orange Park in 1877. It became a winter retreat and farming community before the Great Freeze destroyed local crops in 1895. However, agriculture never completely recovered in the town and it gradually became a more residential area, buoyed by its proximity to Jacksonville.

Following the plane crash that ended Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Street Survivors tour in 1977, the three band members killed in the accident (Ronnie Van Zant, Cassie Gaines, and Steve Gaines) were buried in the Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery in Orange Park. However, their remains were later moved following the vandalism of the graves in 2000.
